Measures, describes, computes, analyzes and integrates geologic/scientific data. Must be able to competently perform all or some of the following: thin section petrography, scanning electron microscopy, sedimentological core description, X-ray diffraction data interpretation and well log analysis.
Provides the analysis of organic-rich shale rocks using reflected light microscopy
Measures vitrinite reflectance in shale and coal
Describes kerogen types using transmitted light
Performs the evaluation and interpretation of source-rock potential from Rock-Eval/TOC data
Prepares technical reports for clients by integrating geochemical and geological data, interfaces with clients to discuss analytical results or set up projects.
Assists senior level geoscientists when needed Maintaining active role in professional and industry organizations to stay abreast of technical developments and industry needs QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Master of Science degree in geology with specialization in organic petrology or in a related gas field, with 2-4 years of directly related experience preferred. Bachelor degree in geology or related field with 6 plus years directly related experience accepted in lieu of a Master’s Degree. Preference will be given to individuals with experience on gas shale rocks. Must be computer literate with good knowledge of MS office. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations to customers, clients, management, and other employees of the organization. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and scientific journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Demonstrates a high level of responsiveness to inquiries or complaints from clients. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and calculate area, circumference and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and interpret various graphs used to analyze data. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of geological data problems. Ability to deal with formulas, scientific equations, and graphs. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid passport required in the event international travel is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
