Senior Environmental Remediation Engineer

Job Description:

Our firm works on a diverse range of ground engineering, environmental investigation and remediation projects for commercial, industrial, mining, oil and gas, and waste management companies. The successful applicant will be expected to build upon our existing remediation group in the Atlanta office. The main focus for the position is to develop, grow, and execute remediation work in the Southeastern US. The person will be supported by a vibrant construction division and a well-staffed investigation group. Knowledge or interest in vapour intrusion would be an advantage but not a requirement.

This person will participate in a broad range of business development, proposal, design, costing, and implementation duties. We anticipate that the person will be able to lead, perform, and review the design and implementation for in-situ biological and abiotic systems. The successful candidate must be able to troubleshoot and conduct maintenance and repair on these systems including the ex-situ components (e.g., pumps, pipes and mixers). In addition, this person should be familiar with other remediation techniques.

The successful candidate will also take part in project documentation and reporting; develop screening to detailed cost estimates, equipment specs, and project scopes; and lead equipment procurement. This person must integrate with our self-perform construction division, participate in the selection and oversight of subcontractors, train remedial system operators and field technicians, and evaluate remedial system performance.
Job Requirements:

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

* Environmental Engineer must have a minimum of ten (10+) years of environmental remediation experience;
* Must have strong connections and experience in Southeast USA;
* Must have a Bachelors or higher degree in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering; and
* Must have current Registration as a PE or ability to obtain PE License within six months.

* Actively participate in the development of mechanical standards and procedures for the ASU’s.
* Participate in a leading, hands-on role during the plant commissioning to ensure an expedient and smooth transition into operations.

The incumbent will serve as a positive role model with a high degree of Visible Felt Leadership in the field. The position location is in the Dominican Republic and will be a fly in/ fly out assignment.     Main Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Implement SAFE task work procedures that will ensure the SAFE and efficient operation of all of the circuits within area of responsibility.
  • Implement task work procedures that will ensure environmental compliance as they pertain to spills and air emission regulations.
  • In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the operations, including tasks, workplaces and equipment with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard operating procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
  • Povide feedback to the Operations General Supervisor in relation to construction and process design.
  • Interact with the HR department, to identify and hire operators.
  • Hire and lead commissioning teams for his area of responsibility.

Position Overview:
The Mechanical Supervisor – Neutralization is responsible for the safe and effective mechanical maintenance of the hot cure, CCD, lime boil, Fe and HDS neutralization, lime and limestone distribution assets within the processing facility. * In partnership with electrical, planning and reliability personnel develop and refine the mechanical maintenance strategies and programs for the plant.

Position Overview
 
The incumbent is responsible for operational activities as well as close supervision of the hourly workforce. These duties within the refinery include electrowinning, cathode preparation, mercury retort operation, dust collection and scrubbers, gold pouring and bullion preparation. The incumbent will ensure proper safety and environmental management systems are followed as well as organizing employee training activities. The incumbent must have a clear security record and be familiar with refinery security procdures. The incumbent will serve as a positive role model with a high degree of Visible Felt Leadership in the field. The position location is in the Dominican Republic and will be a fly in/ fly out assignment.


Main Duties & Responsibilities
   
* Implement SAFE task work procedures that will ensure the SAFE and efficient operation of all of the circuits within area of responsibility.
* Implement task work procedures that will ensure environmental compliance as they pertain to spills and air emission regulations.
* Maintain confidentiality and tight security procedures through out the area.
* In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the operations, including tasks, workplaces and equipment with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard operating procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
* Provide feedback to the Operations General Supervisor in relation to construction and process design.
* Assist in leading commissioning teams within his area of responsibility.
* Maintain confidentiality and tight security procedures
* Supervise a team of expat and national refining personnel. Make field contact a priority, with the goal of maintaining an engaging, positive and motivating work atmosphere, with pride in quality and productive work.
* Assist in the Pre-operational testing activities led by the EPCM contractor and identify non-compliance items that make the punch list.
* Ensure the employees acquire the most competency out of the Pre-ops testing activities and can act as instructors for the rest of the workforce.  
* Implement refining area training and progression, document the training progress, perform task observations and perform employee training assessments.
* Create and maintain high work, workplace and housekeeping standards that will pertain to the process plant.
* Monitor and coordinate refining activities and identify improvement opportunities when warranted and implement when possible.
* Coordinate the maintenance activities, including the use of Work Permits for his area of responsibility. Ensure the equipment is ready for the planned maintenance activities.
* Implement equipment maintenance inspection sheets and review with the maintenance supervisor to proactively identify equipment that requires attention.
* Lead and implement the safety and training programs, including (but not limited to) the development of the Risk management, Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections, Task Observations and Training programs.
* Interact in succession planning within the operations team to ensure PVDC achieves development of the Dominican employees to assume positions of increasing responsibility.
* Maintain proper training and documentation as it relates to the cyanide code.

Manager of Leadership Development                  Barrick is the gold industry leader, with the largest gold production, gold reserves and market capitalization in the industry. Barrick shares are traded on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.   Currently Barrick has an opening for a Manager of Leadership Development  within our Human Resources department.   The Role:   The Manager of Leadership Development will play an essential supporting role in the development of Barrick Gold leaders in the efforts to develop a sustainable pipeline of leadership talent.  The Manager will be responsible for assisting in the successful design, development, and implementation of a leadership development framework and associated curriculum that will prepare business and technical leaders to be successful.  This position will oversee the day to day coordination of ensuring Barrick leaders are receiving programs tailored to their individual and group development needs.   Key Responsibilities:   To identify current and emerging trends in the mining industry that can be utilized in creating dynamic leadership programs.   Professional Development – To oversee the continuous improvement and effective implementation of Barrick’s leadership development programs by preparing internal and external candidates to become future Barrick leaders.   To further develop the selection and evaluation process for emerging leaders based on identified core competencies.   To provide strategic input on identifying and developing impactful programs to drive and strengthen the Barrick performance culture.   Performance Evaluation – To set high and measurable goals for tracking program participants to ensure optimal growth and skill development.   To oversee and assist in evaluating the progress and gains of program participants.   To partner with other internal Barrick groups and build relationships with various external vendors and providers.   To coach and provide models, tools and processes on specific initiatives.   To coordinate and partner with the HR community on key processes and development initiatives.   Required Skills and Experience:   5 + years leadership development experience, preferably in a mining setting.   Demonstrated results in the development and delivery of effective programs.   Experience in partnering with Universities and premier providers for Leadership Development programs.   Good consulting, communication, presentation and relationship building skills.   Experience in a variety of areas such as: Leadership Development, Organizational Development, associate development, project management, facilitation, and coaching.   Demonstrated ability to network and partner with all levels of the organization.   Demonstrated industry knowledge and track record of successfully managing major projects and changes.   Strong leadership skills and personal drive.   Passion for leadership excellence.   Ability to implement programs to improve business.   An entrepreneurial spirit as well as a proven track record of results   Technologically proficient   Education Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree from a recognized post secondary institution in a related discipline.

Core skills development of a large maintenance group is integral in the success of the project and will provide many challenges in the early stages.   Main Duties & Responsibilities   Pre-Operating Phase ·         Contribute to defining the core skills and competencies for the process maintenance welding trade areas. ·         Deliver and maintain accredited trade training competency, internal qualification and external certification programs for the process maintenance mechanical department working with third party training providers as required. ·         Implement, coordinate, actively monitor and report the effectiveness of the welding maintenance certification programs to meet the operational needs of the project. ·         Monitor and track training needs and objectives that support the specific welding maintenance activity requirements of the process plant. ·         Coordinate vendor specific training as required. ·         Contribute to defining and implementing safety policies and procedures for both operations and mechanical maintenance to ensure compliance with corporate, regulatory, statutory and industry best practice requirements. ·         Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections and Task Observations. ·         Contribute to Maintenance Training recruitment processes.   Operational Phase ·         Align with other PVDC Training professionals to achieve efficient coordination of common training. ·         Effectively supervise national training personnel to achieve effective delivery of training and safety programs. ·         Work closely with the Training General Supervisor, Mechanical General Supervisors and Supervisors to determine training needs for personnel and the development of individual training plans. ·         Continually monitor the progress of training participants to ensure satisfactory performance in the development of competent personnel to meet the localization and manpower requirements as directed by the Maintenance & Safety Training General Supervisor. ·         Monitor welding maintenance safety activities including training and certification programs, inspections and investigations. ·         Monitor and report on welding maintenance training, safety and environmental performance. ·         Manage welding maintenance training records and programs. Gather and collate competency evidence. ·         Support the Process Maintenance and Safety Training section’s “continual improvement” philosophy.   Qualifications   Education ·         Completion of a certified program of competence in welding, at trade or diploma level. ·         Completion of a certified program of competence in welding exotic metals (specifically stainless steel, aluminum and titanium) desirable. ·         CWI/CWE certification or the ability to test for. ·         Leadership or supervisory training. ·         Formal qualification in adult education. ·         Recognized safety certification is desirable.   Experience ·         5+ years of metal fabrication experience in an industrial process plant of fabrication facility, with at least 3 years in a training and development or supervisory and leadership position. ·         5+ years of experience in Stick, TIG, MIG and pipe welding. ·         Previous experience in the successful implementation of welding maintenance training programs. ·         Previous experience working in a developing country desirable. ·         Previous experience in a hydrometallurgical process plant preferable but not essential.   Skills & Abilities ·         Demonstrated ability of working in a multicultural team. ·         Proficient in the use of Microsoft products and learning database systems. ·         Demonstrated skills and knowledge of safety processes and systems in a modern industrial processing facility. ·         Coordination of training activities with equipment vendors and third party providers. ·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to speak, read and write in English. ·         Bilingual English/Spanish essential.
