The Resource Evaluation team at Cliffs is currently seeking an experienced geologist in the role of Senior Project Development Geologist. Reporting through to the Exploration Manager, this position will be responsible for ensuring the drilling and exploration activity for the Resource department is undertaken to standards suitable for resource assessment and in line with company objectives within Cliffs Natural Resources tenements and exploration projects. This role will require regular travel to our sites.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities for this role are:
· Preparation and submission to DMP of Plan of Works ("PoW's) for exploration activities
· Liaison with key external stakeholders regarding exploration activities - DMP, DEC, EPA and DoW
· Engage and manage contractors and ensure compliance / adherence to conditions set out in contracts
· Ensure that drilling / exploration activity is undertaken to standards suitable for resource assessment
· Review geological results for compliance with Cliffs data requirements
· Undertake reviews of the Cliffs geological database and any QA/QC issues identified
· Communicate geological data requirements / issues to field teams
· Ensure scheduling / timelines of drilling & earthworks programs is undertaken prior to commencement
· Plan and prepare rehabilitation proposals and requirements ensuring they are completed within statutory time limits
· Planning for the use of available resources in the most efficient manner such that programs are completed as per budget
· Implement a contractor management plan to ensure compliance with conditions of contract (safety, training, competencies)
· Ensure that field teams are updated regularly with arrival dates and compliance of exploration contractors
· Assist in ore characterisation studies for resource conceptual studies
· Communicate approved procedures for work and environmental tasks
· Assist in annual budget preparation
· Assist in annual cost code expenditure tracking
· Assist in tenement expenditure tracking commitments and prepare plans for strategic tenement retention
· Advise in new tenement acquisitions
The successful candidate will possess:
· A recognised degree in Geology or Bachelor of Science with a major in Geology
· 5 years field experience in both exploration for and evaluation of mineral deposits preferably in Australia
· A motivated and energetic manner and approach to their work
· Highly developed communication abilities to interact with stakeholders and contractors
· Willingness to undertake regular travel to site on an as required basis
· Previous supervisory experience in coordinating external contractor groups
· Exposure to contractor engagement / management processes
· Knowledge of Western Australian Department of Mines requirements for Plans of Work for exploration activities
· Knowledge of the Heritage and Environmental requirements and processes around exploration activities in Western Australia
