Headquartered in Houston, Texas, ConocoPhillips stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "COP." Description: This position will be involved in facility siting work practices to evaluate personnel and process plant siting for all parts of ConocoPhillips. This includes the evaluation of fire, toxic and overpressure hazards and the risk presented by these hazards. Part of the job will be completing these types of hazard assessments and part of the job will involve managing consultants and contractors to carry out these assessments for ConocoPhillips. One key element of this work is having a working knowledge of industry practices and the latest knowledge related to the evaluation of fire, toxic and overpressure events and the relationship to personnel safety. Many of the work items that will be included in this position are elements of the API RP 752 publication, Management of Hazards Associated with Location of Process Plant Permanent BuildingsBoth new projects and existing plants will be included in the siting evaluation process. Consistency across the company is an important element for these types of assessments. The individual will work with HSE and process safety representatives from the businesses to compete this work. The Building and Facility Consultant may be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with industry representatives who are experts in different aspects of facility siting, such as VCE modeling, dispersion modeling, risk tolerance issues, and building structural response to VCE events to keep COP aligned with best practices
  • Interface with Upstream and Downstream management, business unit HSE, and corporate HSE auditing organizations on facility siting issues.
  • Develop and manage programs for facility siting assessments and implementation for existing assets in all business units.
  • Work with project teams to ensure new projects conform with existing standard and processes related to facility siting.
  • Learn about and contribute to other aspects of technical safety (fire protection, etc) for application with COP major capital projects. 
  • Write and provide oversight for internal standards related to facility siting issues.
  • Participate in industry wide efforts like API RP 752 and 753 committees.
  • Participate in Explosion Research Cooperative managed by Baker Risk.
  • Stay current with regulatory and legislative requirements affecting the facility siting process, such as OSHA 1910.119

 

Qualifications

  Basic/Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5+ years experience in facility siting work processes
  • Working knowledge of industry practices API RP 752 and API RP 753
  • Fundamental knowledge of fire/toxic and overpressure events in the industrial environment and the impact on personnel safety
  • Basic understanding of building and building structural systems and the response to fire, toxic and overpressure events
Preferred Skills:
  • Good communication skills 
  • Able to work with internal clients to achieve results in the area of risk management and mitigation related to facility siting
  • Ability to manage contractor workforce to achieve work products related to the facility siting process
  • Must be interested in staying current with the latest developments in personnel risk assessment, blast modeling and the processes to evaluate worker exposure to risk
