DescriptionThe Reliability Engineer or Reliability Specialist provides technical leadership to improve equipment reliability by working closely with plant maintenance, inspection, operations and process personnel. Responsibilities Responsibilities for a Reliability Engineer or Specialist include but are not limited to:
- Maintains and stewards the area top 10 bad actor list. Consistently designs and implements solutions for bad actors in order to drive reliability improvements. Provides area input to the overall refinery top 10 bad actor list.
- Ensures predictive and preventive maintenance activities and frequencies are appropriate for all equipment based on equipment criticality and failure history.
- Identify equipment problems and recommend appropriate measures to control, manage and correct issues.
- Recommend material upgrades or changes as the situation and conditions warrant.
- Participate in Process Hazards Analyses for refinery process units.
- Provide technical oversight to field repair and/or modifications, including liaison with vendor and contractor personnel.
- Supervise, and/or perform field tests as required.
- Maintain system to capture appropriate equipment data, equipment records & repair histories, standards updates, and technical bulletins.
- Provide technical support during the project approval process regarding new and/or revamp projects and provide appropriate input for any issues related to rotating or fixed equipment.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the areas of applicable codes and technology affecting the rotating or fixed equipment in order to address problems.
- Lead and/or participate on teams to investigate significant reliability and/or safety related events associated with rotating and fixed equipment.
- Actively participate on the Rotating Equipment Network.
Qualifications
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3+ years experience with rotating and fixed equipment and reliability processes.
- 5+ years direct experience working in a refining, petrochemical or industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with all types of refinery equipment.
- Experience in leading and participating in Root Cause Failure analyses.
- Experience in reliability engineering principles.
- Experience with risk based inspection programs.
- Experience in refinery reliability and mechanical integrity.
- Able to interact with Contractors, both on-site and off-site.
- Has clearly established credibility in terms of technical competence and performance.
- Working knowledge of the Honeywell DCS and the hardware, software and network infrastructure. Working knowledge of data correlation technology. Understanding and use of the PHD historian and associated applications.
- MS Excel, MS Office, Microsoft Outlook and Honeywell CL Computer skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP maintenance related functions.
- Process control valve selection, specification, and sizing.
- Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment.
- Leads by example on the application of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks based on business need.
- Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Willing to share knowledge and responsibility in order to develop others.
