Job Description:
The Victoria Office is seeking an enthusiastic Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of civil/geotechnical engineering projects, with a focus on foundation engineering, site characterization, natural hazards assessment and geotechnical engineering for land development, municipal infrastructure, mining, and transportation projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carry out field investigations, including borehole layout, utility clearances, supervision of drill rigs and/or excavators, logging boreholes and test pits, surveying, and slope inspections;
- Perform site reconnaissance, observation and inspection (for example, footing inspections, nuclear gauge testing, and concrete testing);
- Summarize and analyze findings from site reconnaissance/inspections, investigations and lab testing;
- Analyze and modelling slope stability, settlement, foundation design, and other geotechnical problems;
- Prepare or assisting with the preparation of engineering memos, reports, and presentations.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in geotechnical, geological or civil engineering or equivalent;
- A minimum 2 years of relevant working experience since graduation;
- Strong written and oral communication (English) skills;
- Experience in problem solving with industry standard commercial computer software (e.g. SLOPE/W) ;
- Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
- Proven record of independent work and ability to work effectively within a team environment;
- Valid drivers license; and,
- Field experience is an asset and some travel will be required.
