PURPOSE: Plans, conducts and directs, and coordinates the construction activities of a greenfield construction project in Suriname. Responsible for the coordination of efforts by Merian earthworks team, associated subcontractors, consultants, and project teams in order to complete work within time and cost parameters. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every worker under or assigned to his/her supervision. Directs the planning, cost control and scheduling of construction activities of a large earthwork construction projects by coordinating efforts of various internal departments, projects teams and outside consulting resources. Develops proposals and cost estimates; estimates project needs including equipment, materials and personnel; schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Reviews, evaluates and approves contracts for work to be performed by consultants and outside contractors; monitors budgets, approves plans and designs and resolves problems as they arise. Monitors all work in progress to ensure that quality and engineering standards are met and that designs are effective through the entire process; approves changes to designs or schedules as necessary. Provides technical direction in the resolution of problems associated with the design, engineering and construction of the project. Problems will vary in severity and require an advanced knowledge of project management to ensure adequate resolution. Manages activities related to pre-operational testing and startup to ensure smooth transition to operations. Provides technical assistance to operating personnel during start-up phase. Management responsibility for all field personnel including contractors. Ensures all field personnel support and contribute to Newmont SLTO. WORKING CONDITIONS: International travel required on a 23 days on by 19 days off roster. Extensive travel to remote locations with limited or primitive conditions may be necessary. Extended periods of time will be spent at the site.
Qualifications
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: B. S. degree in Engineering and twelve (12) years of experience OR tertiary studies with seventeen (17) years of experience. Minimum of ten (10) years project construction experience. Experience with greenfield and international projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary. Strong leadership and management presentation skills. Demonstrated people management experience and the ability to work with internal and external partners and experience with continuous improvement programs and integrated management systems. Must have the ability to think strategically and implement tactically.
