PURPOSE: Direct three to five regional project teams for Significant Minor Capital and Major Capital Projects providing regular updates to the Regional Operations Senior Vice President and his reports, to develop the early stage projects to a point that they are ready to handoff to mine operations and the project development team for execution. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Develop, support and continuously improve the application of various Project management tools & processes (Strategic Fit Score, ERM score card, etc.) in the region to provide clarity on assets and scenarios. Regional Projects Leadership and Team The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. •The position is located in Cajamarca, Peru and time spread between the town and the site
• Fill the role of Project Director for three to five Significant Minor Capital and Major Capital Projects in accordance with Capital Effectiveness Guidelines.
• Contribute to furthering the Capital Effectiveness and strategic planning process in the region such that early stage projects are developed through feasibility and to a go or no go decision point.
• Develop Project Objectives and communicate to Stage Teams.
• Develop strategies and work plans for projects with Stage Teams and present them to the Regional Operations Senior Vice President and his reports, as well as the Corporate Business Co-Sponsors for Major Capital Projects, for validation.
• Responsible for the delivery of the Stage Work and achieving the Business and Project Objectives by leading the Stage Team in development of Deliverables, AFE and next Stage Detail Execution Plan.
• Determine the Stage Scope of work.
• Determine, with the Gatekeeper/Functional Leads, the risk and opportunity areas to be included in the Independent Review.
• Work with the Regional Management Team, Yanacocha Management Team, and Function Leads to staff qualified Stage Teams.
• Work with the Function Leads to identify required stage deliverables.
• Responsible for Quality Management for the projects.
• Decide, with the Gatekeeper, when the project is ready to proceed to the Gate Review.
• Manage project’s Budget and Forecast and communicate spending status to Business Co-Sponsors.
• Present regular updates of advance of projects to the Regional Operations Senior Vice President and his reports, as well as the Corporate Business Co-Sponsors for Major Capital Projects.
• Actively solicit feedback from the Regional Operations Senior Vice President and his reports, as well as the Corporate Business Co-Sponsors for Major Capital Projects.
• Present advance of project to other key corporate and regional stakeholders, as required.
• Manage project teams through fluid communication of strategies and work plan, and regular follow-up on advance of work plan.
• Ensure the scenario generated have been aligned with creativity and innovation and synergies for all assets in the regional portfolio
• Introduce an integrated planning framework into the region which seamlessly combines production and business metrics from projects to provide asset and scenario value clarity.
• Assist to establish and execute a change management plan to fully integrate the Capital Effectiveness process, Resources declaration and permitting to achieve the goals of strategic planning into the region.
• Develop and support cross-functional teams that advance early stage projects to the point of production execution.
• Integrate the social, environmental and governmental affairs into the project strategy. Ensure strategic planning process develop readiness for execution.
• Ensure Newmont’s Capital Effectiveness Program is adhered to in all aspects of project assessment and advancement.
• Actively contribute to the compilation, synthesis and communication of Significant Minor Capital and Major Capital Projects within the global context.
• Manage and communicate the schedule progress, resources to ensure the main deliverables between functional areas.
• Provide analysis, diagnostics and reporting of the Region’s Capital Projects.
• Build trust and credibility with regional teams that fosters open communication, collaboration and creates results for the business.
• Assist to establish a high-performing team among direct/indirect reports through leadership practices including performance management, coaching and development of team members.
• Mentors subordinate staff to develop their communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Mentor and inspire the engineers to continue to drive best practice (approach, project management, innovation, etc.).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
•The site is located at around 3900m above sea level
•The position will require some travel domestically and internationally
