PURPOSE:
- Provide effective leadership to metallurgical projects staff to provide long term support for process operations and regional projects.
- Implement professional development strategies for National Metallurgical personnel, and provide professional guidance and mentoring.
- Management of Metallurgical balance and Process Water balance functions and Life of Mine planning for infrastructure upgrades to support long term operational needs
- Co-ordination as required with Stage Gate Project managers, Exploration Geology managers and Newmont Technical Services personnel on Yanacocha and South American Regional projects, providing technical services as required for Regional projects including oxide gold leaching, gold milling, copper flotation and complex gold/copper orebodies requiring advanced flotation and hydrometallurgical processes.
- Coordination of Metallurgical test work programs with MYSRL Metallurgical Laboratory and Newmont Metallurgical Services Laboratory to support regional projects with well planned and executed metallurgical test work to support Stage Gate deliverables.
- Provide technical assistance to Yanacocha Project Development personnel on new electro-mechanical projects, such as Process expansions, Water Treatment facilities, and other projects as they arise.
- Provide consulting services as required for due diligence studies of properties within the region, potentially requiring occasional travel.
- Ensure compliance of company policies and procedures including Loss Prevention, Safety and Environmental Protection.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop and achieve operational and capital financial budgets within the scope of the position
- Focus on the compliance of site policies such as Loss Prevention, Safety and Environmental Protection.
- Instill teamwork & promote a positive & productive work environment for employees.
- Ensure training and development plans are well laid out, understood and followed through.
- Ensure an effective control of labor and personnel productivity, and quality work.
- Establish and maintain value-added relationships with peers within Newmont operations and at Newmont Metallurgical Services.
- Manage peer reviews for capital projects within discipline as required
- Provide constant feedback and guidance to metallurgical projects General foreman, Advisor and senior metallurgists, and ensure all goals, objectives, procedures, programs & controls are clearly communicated and achieved.
- Manage targeted operational reviews, to identify areas for potential improvement.
- Evaluate options for improvements in operational performance and implement initiatives to address
- Ensure that training and development of National staff is carried out in a timely manner.
- To carry out all other responsibilities as formulated from time to time and as approved by the Manager, Metallurgical Projects at MYSRL
- Be aware of and comply with the Mining Safety and Health Regulations (Supreme Decree 046-2001-EM), the MYSRL Loss Prevention Manual, the Internal Manual of Procedures and Rules for his work area, and scheduled Loss Prevention activities in the department.
- Know, be committed to and fulfill, within his area of responsibility and when applicable to his activities, environmental laws and regulations specified by the Environmental Department, Environmental Commitment, environmental procedures, & assigned & scheduled responsibilities in his department.
- The responsibilities referred to above are the main duties of the position. The position also performs other activities that are not included in this document, it being the responsibility of the direct supervisor to state them.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Operations are carried out at 4000 meters above sea level. Work may be performed in an office and in field at any of the various plants. Have good health to work at an altitude between 3,000 to 4,000 meters above sea level.
- The position may include a limited amount of off-site travel to attend business meetings and conferences at various world wide sites within or outside Newmont.
- Work schedule consisting in 5 days of work followed by 2 days off.
- Have the capacity to move all around the MYSRL operations and Cajamarca to serve clients.
- Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites in the region.
- Advanced written and spoken English required for effective communication of project and Stage Gate documentation. Written and spoken Spanish skills favorable along with a willingness to learn Spanish to improve effectiveness in communicating with the work group and various cross functional contacts.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Formal Education / Experience: University degree in Mineral Process Engineering, Metallurgy or similar area of specialization, and/ or more than 12 years diverse mineral processing experience including heap leaching, milling and refractory processes. Project engineering / metallurgy / process commissioning experience is favorable.
- Extensive knowledge of safety, health and environmental regulations as they pertain to process operations.
- Proven record in successfully managing and developing personnel.
- Ability to work outside of home country environment and adapt and be respectful to host country culture while achieving results in a positive manner.
- Knowledge of preparing and managing budgets.
- Ability to communicate to all levels of the operation and ensure effective communication to employees.
- Ability to recognize and implement process and policy to maximize the results of the Process team.
- Must possess a valid driver's license & obtain Peruvian license within 6 months.
